Risk Map

Risk Areas Worldwide 2024

Our risk levels vary between 1 (low) and 5 (extremely high) and are based on a comprehensive assessment in which qualitative as well as quantitative indicators are considered.

Important factors for the assessment of the risk level are: armed conflicts, crime rate, demonstrations and strikes, ethnic and religious conflicts, bribery and corruption, political instability, despotism and terrorism.

5. Extremely High Risk

Travelers face very high security risks. Level-5-countries are often engaged in a civil war. Criminal attacks or attacks by terrorists or extremists are common. Foreign citizens are often target of criminal attacks. The risk of kidnapping is very high. We strongly advise against travelling to level-5-countries. In case of necessary journeys extensive security measures are to be taken. Preparations for an earlier departure respectively evacuation of the travelers are to be made.

4. High Risk

Travelers face high security risks. Incidents like criminal attacks or attacks by terrorists or extremists are common, especially in urban centers. Political/economical unrests often occur in level-4-countries. Furthermore there is a risk of regional and armed conflicts that may end in civil war scenario. Travelers are strongly advised to take strict and region-specific security measures and to start planning an earlier departure. A security briefing should be obligatory.

3. Medium-High Risk

The general risk for travelers is partly considered as heightened. In level-3-countries the security risks may vary in different regions. Incidents like criminal attacks or attacks by terrorists or extremists may occur; the same applies for political unrests. Travelers are advised to adopt heightened security measures, depending on the region. A security briefing is advisable.

2. Medium Risk

Travelers are exposed to minor risks. Criminal attacks, terrorism and/or activities by extremists may occur sporadically. In urban centers or some regions single and special risks may be heightened. Level-2-countries only seldom face minor political or economical unrest. Normal and local security precautions are advisable.

1. Low Risk

The threat level for travelers is low. Level-1-countries are normally free of any political or criminal violence. Criminal attacks, terrorism and/or activities by extremists are very rare. Basic security precautions are sufficient.
